WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN

Hello!

It's been a while, sorry guys! Things have been, well, insane. Since we last talked, I turned 28, I bought a car, my boyfriend moved out of the apartment, I quit my job of seven years, I got a new job, and Chicago started showing signs of life again. It's all been mostly good, and exciting, and I welcome all these new changes, but it has definitely been a time of transition. I've had a few nights of freaking out, a few nights of getting really drunk in celebration, and many nights of paperwork and budget balancing.

Even though I was away, I was thinking about you guys a lot. Ever since I lost my dad last summer and took a little sabbatical, whenever I go silent for more than a week or two, I get a reader or two that reaches out and sends a note of love or encouragement, or sometimes, just checking in to see if I'm okay. I can't tell you what that means to me, even though I often get too embarrassed or overwhelmed to write anything back. I'm reading them, and appreciating them so, so much.

I was thinking about how I would just wait to post until I made some new projects, or made some changes around the house, or things like that. But people reaching out to me via email, or Twitter, or Instagram checking in about how life is going made me feel a little more confident in updating just with a few pictures here and there, or a few thoughts. I gave up on having this be a for-profit blog (1. Because it was taking the fun out of it for me and 2. Because it wasn't really happening anyways haha), so a few more personal or less design-heavy posts will pop up from time to time. I've mentioned doing it before, but never really worked up the nerve. I may lose some readers, I may gain some, but all in all I'm so glad to have had you guys along the way.

xo,
z

PS: I do have a post coming up this week where I tried a very popular Pinterest craft that failed miserably, which is kind of my favorite kind.

  1. I'm glad you're okay! Ah that's a crazy change in your life, I hope for the better! I gave up trying to keep up with the blog schedule and freaking out about hits a bit ago. I'm enjoying blogging more now than I have in a long time.

  8. Yay! Personally I don't know how anyone does the DIY posts on the reg. They can really add up money wise and only half of mine are okay to post.

  12. Warm wishes from the frozen tundra of North Dakota... It's a delight to come back to a new posting after all this time. Best of luck with these struggles and may spring bring beautiful opportunities your way.

  13. This is why my favorite cliche is "when it rains, it pours." BECAUSE IT DOES. I am sorry for all the hard stuff and glad to hear some hope in your voice. I went through a similar upheaval at 28 (I say this as though those times are well beyond me...please. I am 30) and it truly was something I needed to do. Trust yourself.

  17. So glad you're back! Yay for big changes, even the scary or sad ones, they usually turn out to be pretty cool, too. Please tell me you've tried the wine bottle cutting with string and nail polish remover because that shit is nonsense. Clearly I need professional help.

  20. We missed you. Change can be scary and good at the same time. Congrats on the good stuff, and have some gin to take the edge off the bad. I love your blog no matter what you post. You crack me up. I always check to see if you have something new. Enjoy your blog and don't force it on our account. We will be here when you are ready. :)

  21. I'm so glad you are back!! I love all your posts equally, no matter the subject. Change is exhausting, I'm glad you took a break to take care of yourself! Life > internet (sometimes).

  22. Yay, welcome back! I have definitely been concerned for your lack of posts here and on Tumblr, but glad to hear you are making big changes. Movin' on up!

  23. Shit you've had an eventful couple of months. Hope everything is ok. Sounds like you've had a rough year. :/

  24. PS also, scary / sad changes are usually for the best (so I've learned in the one year that I have on ya). One time I moved out of the apt I shared with Kasey, that turned to shit, and then I met Mark (well i already knew him, but you know what I mean).
