LUCILLE AUSTERO IS MY VALENTINE

Happy Valentine's Day folks! I know this is a divisive holiday, and the internet really wants you to pick a side in a game where the only options are:

1.) Bitter spinster who loves wine, crying and microwave meals for one
2.) Betrothed cheeseball who enjoys cutting food into heart shapes and giving coupons for sex acts.

What about those of us who love crying AND heart shaped food?? WHAT ABOUT US, HALLMARK??? But seriously, I love Valentine's Day because I love affection and candy. I guess I never really talked about it on the blog (lol though one reader figured it out when he found me on OkCupid), but a change of situation a while back has me celebrating this High Holy Holiday with Luce, pizza, and Big Freedia, which is going to be awesome. I'm also going to be continuing my hunt for Brach's Jube Jel Hearts, my FAVORITE Valentine's Day candy which is conspicuously absent from shelves this year. Thanks, Obama.

What are you doing for Valentine's Day? And yeah, I'm really asking! I love hearing about people's plans for special days, whether you just get takeout and watch horror movies or have a Galentine's Day party or you do the fancy pre-fixe thing, I just love celebrations. And I love Tumblr valentine's, so if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to trolling the internet for ridiculous v-day cards, with a focus on ones for my lady Lucille Austero:

xoxoxo,
z (& luce)

PS: r/p is in the homies again over at apartment therapy, if you like reading this little weird blog, throw us a vote!

  1. I love Valentine's Day, I've turned it into a family gift-giving holiday because I LOVE BUYING PRESENTS FOR PEOPLE! I got new pink Converse and made conversation/gem heart stickers for my tween, kitty cat/heart pajamas & a copy of Guess How Much I Love you for my baby (plus I dressed her in red & white heart leggings and a pink t-shirt today, yeesh), and red checked boxers and an expensive bottle of scotch for my husband. Tonight I'm making sweet & sour pork for dinner and yes, I'm cutting the peppers & pineapples into heart shapes.

  2. It sounds like your Valentine's Day was awesome! Lucille looks like the perfect valentine! I only managed to find the jube jel lips this year. To be honest, it freaks me the fuck out eating candy shaped like body parts. Bring back the hearts!

  3. I just voted for you on Apartment Therapy - so glad I found your blog, it has been inspiring for me as I try and start my own. :) Happy Valentines Day - hope you can find some of that candy somewhere. (I've never HEARD of Jube Jel hearts but I sure am intrigued…!)

  7. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself on Valentine's Day!! Did you go to a Big Freedia show or just watch her mesmerizing videos on YouTube?

I spent Valentine's Day with a steak, lovely wine, baked potato smothered in cheese and bacon, and Burlesque, because when I think Valentine's Day, I think Cher.

    Chin up, life is fabulous!
