DIY Knit Vase

This particular DIY came about kind of on accident. I was making another sweater pillow (original tutorial here) and really loved this particular sweater's knit and didn't want any of it to go to waste.

Such a good chunky knit! And so soft! And the perfect grey!

It was a good thrifting day, so I also picked up a flannel to make this pillow from the Yellow Brick Home tutorial! I think I'm only going to make flannel button down pillows from now on, because it was SO easy and didn't require any hidden stitching, which is always the hardest part for me.

Anyways, let's get back to the matter at hand. I have this yellow vase that I love, but it's not particularly festive. So I just cut the arm off the leftover sweater and shimmied it over the vase.

I left the sleeve long on purpose, so I could fold the leftover inside of the vase. Make sure you put the cuff on the outside, and the raw edge on the inside of the vase.

Your plant will have to be in a smaller pot  to drop in if you don't want to get the sweater wet whenever you water the plant. I avoided this problem all together by using my favorite kind of plant: fake and from Ikea.

Drop the plant in, and enjoy your free, festive upgrade to a vase that would otherwise be tucked away for the season.

  1. adorable tutorial!! I'll have to keep an eye out for white/grey sweaters while I'm thrifting!
Also, have you ever tried making envelope pillow cases?
