An Even Better Arnold Palmer

I loooooooooooooooove Arnold Palmers. That many O's were necessary there to tell you just how much of that sweet nectar I can drink in one sitting. Each O represents ten glasses.

Normally, I would say perfection is not to be messed with, but there are exceptions to the rule, and this exception is bourbon. I made one of these last night because it warmed up to a balmy 37 degrees for my walk home and it was feelin' like spring (I'm not being facetious).

Now, the Martha Stewart recipe is very homemade, very fresh, and I bet very delicious. If you are trying to impress someone, you can make that one:

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 4 teaspoons loose English breakfast tea (or 4 tea bags)
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons Simple Syrup
  • Ice, for serving
  • Orange slices, for garnish
  • Pour water over tea, and steep 5 to 7 minutes. Strain, and refrigerate. Stir in bourbon, juices, and syrup. Serve over ice with garnish.

Alternative lazy person version: I did not squeeze lemons. I bought lemonade, brewed some iced tea from Trader Joe's teabags, and added bourbon.

Even lazier person version: Pour a can of Arnold Palmer into a glass, add bourbon and a fancy straw, to make it less trashy.

Last resort: Just pour the bourbon, powdered lemonade and tea leaves into your mouth and swish.

Where I'm sitting in this picture (trying to catch the last of the light and, apparently, staring into my neighbor's bay window...) is kind of a giveaway to this post, but I'm still tweaking it a bit before taking pictures. But man, thank you all for your responses and suggestions!! I was psyched to see so many new readers on that post!

So go make one and stare in your very own neighbor's windows. I kid, no one lives in that apartment. So you know, don't do that. Also, look at these adorable paper straws Target has now! It's like someone in Big Box Store Land knew I was making twee cocktails in mason jars for today's post. Thanks for lookin out, Target.

  1. OMG, you are so a person I could be friends with. Every time I read your blog, it's like I'm reading something one of my friends would write. (That is, if I had cool blogger friends, but I don't so...) Thank you so much for the fun words. :)

    1. haha that is the ultimate compliment, thank you!!

  2. haha you're hilarious. Love your alternatives especially "last resort" :) I'm excited to try this! Best thing? I already have all the ingredients!!
