So now that our little family is growing, I wanted to create a family portrait to have up in our house that includes Lucille Austero so that she feels like a real part of the family. Because dogs see pictures on shelves and correlate that with family. I don't know man, just go with it.
So I painted this little ditty while Andy talked to me about basketball and I nodded every so often, pretending I understood any of it (but um, Rock Chalk!)
Because I am physically incapable of waiting for immediate feedback, I put it up on Instagram (megzandi) rather than waiting to make a proper blog post. However, my impatience paid off because I got an amazingly warm reaction from all of you, inquiring on how to get your own family portrait. Well, I need Christmas money and practice, so I decided to finally kick off my little Etsy shop!
In the spirit of keeping it real, I don't totally know what I'm doing. All I know how to do is paint. I don't know how much all the supplies will eventually cost (since I've done this with stuff I already had) or how long each custom order will take me (and related, how much to charge in relation to my time spent), or any of those things that you can only figure out with time. So I figured, if you guys want to give this a whirl with me, lets try it.
I'm going to start selling these for $10 bucks with free shipping (US only right now, just to keep things simple). As I find out how long they take, they may go up in the future, but lets just guinea pig it together. All 5x7 orders are custom for your little family (up to a family of four, pets and inanimate objects welcome!) and orders placed by December 5 will be shipped in time for Christmas.
I have a few custom listings up now, but please don't buy them! Either message me on Etsy or email me and I will create one for you! The best part comes next, which is where you spam me with pictures of your loved ones (so far the ones I've received are heart breakingly cute). Got a favorite pair of earrings you want in there? A freckle you love and want reflected (had to include Andy's up there)? A little grey eyebrow on your pooch that you think makes him look all the more dignified? Just tell me and I'll include it on your portrait.
Thanks everyone! I look forward to painting your family for the holidays. Before we part, here is a picture of Lucille grinning ear to ear on adoption day.
