Before and After

Remember how I've told you guys before that my office is a total shit show? I don't mean in the "I haven't updated my color coded books in AGES!" kind of way, nor do I mean that my desk gets way too messy every now and again.

I mean that it is a straight up, Hoarders-style, crazy fucking mess.

It's one of those things where I didn't mean for it to get so out of control. It went from one project that I didn't finish but wanted to keep contained. Then, I started another project and wanted to put it with the first project so that way all of that kind of stuff was in the same place, because organization. Well, after that happened 2-3 times, it just became a mess. And when something is a mess, adding one more piece of paper or one more box or one more bag you'll deal with later doesn't seem like that big of a deal, until you are here.

Now, I'd like to tell you that one day I was like "No more mess! This is going to change because you are a grown up now, Meg!" but that's a lie. What happened was Andy's dad is coming into town and I had to put up the facade of being a functioning adult for a weekend. So that brought us to this...

A new Expedit replaced crooked Billy's and added a TON more storage space. Next I want to swap out that old black chair for a white shell chair and either get rid of that rug or just make it lie flat, but hey, baby steps.

Stay tuned for another post like this soon, whenever I get around to tackling my guest room....

xo,
z

    1. hahah i think the perspective here is weird or something because i don't remember that whole foods bag being large enough to fit an adult human in.

  3. Nothing like family coming into town to make your get your act together. Forced cleaning, I hate it, but I love it (when it's over).

    1. haha it took a serious like, three straight hours of no breaks to crack everything. The fact that it was just messy and not dirty made it easier because it was a focus on organization instead of any real elbow-grease scrubbing. It helped to take literally everything out of the office, make a keep and toss pile, then slowly integrate the keep pile back into the room!

  8. I love this! I feel way more normal now! At the moment you can't use our main bathroom because it's stuffed full of laundry waiting to be folded and put away. But it does mean downstairs was tidy ish for the influx of mums and babies (all of whom are proper grown ups) that I had on Thursday.
Out of sight, out of mind is a sustainable method of tidying, isn't it?

  11. Love love love it! Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately I have the same issue in a quite larger room. I started cleaning out the attic, but it was too hot in August, then I started cleaning out closets, and piled all the give-aways in the same room. Now I can barely get in the room! But you're right, sometimes we wait till push comes to shove. I have to clean that bonus room for our annual Black Friday Feast/Party. You rock - wish you were closer to invite!
