Nutella Puppy Chow Recipe

Tis the season where the sweaters come out, you can add a scarf to any outfit to pretend you have some semblance of style, and the food becomes hearty and delicious. Not that there isn't something to be said for fresh, crisp veggies and light glasses of lemonade, but man do I love when it turns to the kind of weather where everything you eat is just a little bit heavier (much like myself, about one week into said season).

Today's indulgence is Nutella Puppy Chow. Some of you may call this particular recipe "Muddy Buddies" but those of you who do are wrong, and heathens. What the fuck is a muddy buddy? Why do you have friends made of mud? Everyone hates mud, and everyone loves puppies, so my regionally-influenced answer in this ridiculous self-created argument is obviously correct.

Let's bury the hatchet and go back to bonding over what all of us love- Nutella.

1 jar of Nutella
1 stick of butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
12 oz Chex cereal (this is usually one standard sized box from the store)
3 cups powdered sugar

Using a double broiler or your microwave, melt the Nutella, chocolate and butter together, stirring often.

Once melted, pour this delicious gooey mixture over your Chex cereal. Roll up your sleeves, get in there and work it all together, coating the cereal with the chocolatey goodness. Don't worry if you crush some cereal in the process, the chocolate will glue together the broken pieces.

Next, you can either wash your hands or you can spend one hour watching House Hunters International painstakingly licking every morsel off your grubby little paws.  You know, just a hypothetical option.

After the cereal is fully coated and your hands are clean, pour it into a gallon ziplock (or even just a Target bag) with the powdered sugar and shake it up, singing every song you can think of with "shake" in the lyrics.

Now go eat this whole batch while finishing that House Hunters marathon.

Edited to add- Calee from Chimes Design just let us know that this recipe is also gluten free! Eat up, everyone.

  1. any recipe that involves a full jar of nutella and a full stick of butter is so my favorite thing.

  2. haha thanks for the shoutout! it's gluten free *only* if you use rice or corn chex — and triple check if you have issues with cross contamination, yo. ;)
