Makeup Tutorial - Cat Eyes & Red Lips

I know that around here we typically just do DIY home stuff, but on my Instagram, our Facebook page, and in the comments here, I get requests once in a while asking how I do my makeup. I figured it might be a nice change of pace to try and give you a makeup tutorial, and if you hate it, we'll pretend this never happened. If you love it, let me know/ask me for other tutorials/request specific looks/etc.

I need to tell you going into this, the video is a bit rough. Its the first time I ever used iMovie, and only crying three times is actually an accomplishment considering how frustrated I was. The first draft of this movie was 26 minutes long, which included a lot of me digging through my makeup bag and a four minute stretch of me lazily putting on mascara and staring out the window (it was really nice out). Thanks to my friend Maya, I was able to get that all edited down into a much more manageable 13 minutes.

This is the look we are going to be doing today. A neutral face and eye, with winged eyeliner and a bold red lip. Its easier than it looks, and has a big impact considering that before everything, I looked like this:

I swear I scanned through the video for a still where I had no makeup on and wasn't making a dumb face, it just doesn't exist.

The video covers the basics of a good base and simple neutral eyes, but goes into illusion tricks like how to fake a higher brow arch, how to play up a cupids bow, and how to perfect a cat eye. Like I said, its still a little rough around the edges considering its my first movie ever, and every eight minutes you can hear the Blue Line rumbling behind me, but hey, we're learning together guys.

  3. Great cat eye tip, I am very, very pale and I know it is so expensive but the Dior concealer and nude foundation is so amazing for light skin and it's pretty moisturizing.. Thanks for the tip!
