Is anybody else experiencing a summer of wedding and babypalooza? All at once, several important people in my life took the leap into these Grown Up Milestones. I am still in the phase where I spend too much money on frivolous shit like candy and nail polish and get excited about things like $2 Tuesdays, so I'm going to hold off on that kind of stuff, but I will celebrate, celebrate, celebrate.
With new families and young couples that are just starting out, you don't want to deviate too much from their registries, because a lot of the times they help them build a practical foundation. However, I love the idea of a gift from their registry paired with a more personal and sentimental present, too.
This picture mashup is from another post, but its so fitting here! The artist and me on the left, the new proud parents on the right.
This post comes as a joint effort between me and my best friend, Kaitlyn. I was throwing my brother and sister-in-law a baby shower and showed her one of the gifts I bought for them, these adorable pillow toy things from Ikea.
Well, because Kaitlyn is amazing, she combined forces with my pillow veggies and made them a personalized painting to tie together the nursery.
I love that both presents go together so well and are gender neutral, since Calvin and Olivia are sharing a nursery. Plus, I'm not sure anything in the world makes me happier than that dancing broccoli.
Tracy over at Pale Accords once gave a wedding gift like this, where she gifted the couple a crock pot they asked for, but included a handmade book of crock pot recipes that she designed and hand-printed. I fully plan on stealing that idea for future wedding presents. At the same baby shower, Sarah from Tudors Down gave the new parents a "cake" made of diapers, with a baby wipe filling.
What are some other good pairings of personal and practical? What are some of the best personal gifts you've received (or given!)?
