Off to the Races- Making a Clutch Out of an Old Glasses Case

Some days on this blog, I won't be posting the single most innovative display of crafting you have ever seen. Some days, I'll just be trying out shit I see on Pinterest and hoping that I don't royally fuck it up. Because as we all know, sometimes I just can't win. Today is one of those days where you can consider me your Pinterest guinea pig.

Debo over at Leopard is a Neutral showed me this particular one, originally from Trinkets in Bloom, which is just spray painting mini animals and gluing them on shit, which really fits my aesthetic. Even better is that she used old glasses cases, which I have um, quite a few of.  I love the evening clutch look of the glitter ones, but I'm STILL cleaning up tourmaline glitter from an older project, so I decided to go a more graphic, pop-art look.

You will need:
Glasses case
Plastic animal
Spray Paint
Tape
Marker
Superglue

First, spray paint the case a solid color. I then marked off a stripe using tape and hit that with a spray of orange paint. I had this little horse painted already, chillin on my kitchen shelves-

I taped off his head and spray painted him pink before giving his hooves a pop of color.

And finally, I used a Sharpie to give him little spots, drawing my inspiration from The Good Machinery on Etsy, but it doesn't look like the particular style is sold anymore.

I tapped a little Superglue on the back legs and placed him on the glasses case. There you have it, a bold, graphic, tiny, tacky purse.

  2. Ok, I love it! It totally reminds me of the quirky Ted Baker London clutches that cost a fortune. Kudos!

  3. Hey -

Did the spray paint adhere well? I have been meaning to spray paint my glasses case, but am afraid the plastic may make the paint flake off. Was yours okay?

    Thanks :)
